The Way Through: From a Life Sentence to a Meaningful Life

It takes courage to surrender to what might be possible, to look at the things those around you that seem like they might be impossible and do them anyway.

Is a totally and completely transformed business and life impossible? Take an extreme. Could a person go from a life sentence in prison for countless crimes, to finding their humanity, their soul and be released to live a life serving others? Now that sounds absolutely impossible. Right? That would really take something. That would take a transformation.

Well, Eldra Jackson did exactly that. I first came across Eldra in a movie, The Work, about a special program in some prisons responsible for transforming hundreds of violent criminals. I was fortunate to be able to talk with him on The Way Through as I just had to know what it takes for a change that's that drastically positive. Eldra is part of a group called Inside Circle, which he joined in 2000, about nine years into his life sentence at Folsom Prison. Through his incredible work with that group, a group he is now a leader of, Eldra completely changed who he was in the world and was released in 2014. It wasn’t by chance.

On this episode Eldra and I discuss:

  • Choices and their impact on your life

  • Opening yourself up to vulnerability

  • Constantly questioning why

  • Realizing you ARE POSSIBLE

  • Transforming who you are in the world

  • Living from your place of light

  • We are all born with the light, and informed by the world
