Top 10 Excuses (And Why You Don't Need Them)

FEBRUARY 10, 2025

Growth starts the moment you stop making excuses and start moving forward. Common roadblocks like lack of time, fear of failure, or feeling unprepared are just mental barriers that can be solved. By anticipating these excuses upfront, you take away their power, replace them with action, and achieve results.

I have a simple trick that I’ve used for years to stay on track with big goals. It works incredibly well, if you apply it :). It will change the way you approach challenges.

Ok, here it is: If you’re aiming for a big goal, identify potential excuses before they even have a chance to hold you back.

When you acknowledge the obstacles ahead of time—lack of time, fear of failure, or not feeling ready—you strip them of their power. Instead of using them as justifications for inaction, you can proactively create solutions.

I’ve worked with a lot of people, and I’ve seen the same excuses pop up over and over again. Here are the top 10 excuses I hear, along with the reality check that will keep you moving forward.

1. "I don’t have enough time."

Everyone has 24 hours. The issue isn’t time—it’s prioritization and time management.

2. "I don’t have enough money."

Many successful people started with nothing. Resourcefulness, determination and creativity matter more than money.

3. "I don’t know how to start."

The first step is always unclear, but action creates clarity. Research, ask questions, and just begin.

4. "I’m too tired / I don’t have enough energy."

It’s about managing energy, not just time. Make sure you take the self-care you need and you’re lit up about what you’re working on.

5. "I’m not ready yet."

Perfectionism is fear in disguise, I know because I’m recovering from it myself. No one is ever 100% ready. Start.

6. "I’m afraid of failing."

Failure is part of growth. Every successful person has failed multiple times. The best part? The more you fail, the less it will bother you.

7. "I don’t have the right connections."

Start with what you have and build relationships intentionally. Networking is built over time.

8. "I tried before, and it didn’t work."

Growth is iterative. Learn from past failures, adjust your approach, and try again.

9. "I’m too old / too young."

Tell me about it. Age is irrelevant. Success stories exist at every stage of life and every stage of business.

10. "Now isn’t the right time."

There is no "perfect" time. Waiting for the right moment is an excuse to avoid taking action now and will leave you stuck.

Excuses thrive when we let them go unchallenged. By identifying them in advance, you rob them of their ability to derail you. Instead of waiting for the "right time," the "right amount of money," or the "right connections," we can move forward – No Matter What.

Growth isn’t about avoiding challenges—it’s about anticipating them so that they won’t stop you.
