Why the Smallest Moments Deserve the Greatest Gratitude
DECEMBER 2, 2024
We might notice the big moments of gratitude, but it’s the small ones that really matter and collectively shape our experience.
Find gratitude in the unnoticed details.
Thanksgiving has been a time to show big sweeping signs of gratitude, at least to my American friends that celebrated last week. Family gatherings, food, health, milestones we’ve hit. I don’t mean to downplay the powerful gestures of gratitude, but what about the rest now that we’re past the holiday until next November?
There are another 364 days that matter with small, less expected, easily overlooked moments where gratitude can be even more impactful.
The warmth of the sun streaming through your window. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee. A warm smile from a stranger that somehow says: “I see you”. These are so small, so frequent, they can easily go unnoticed. But collectively, they shape the bulk of our experience.
I’ve come to realize that it’s in these unseen moments where true gratitude lives. When we start to acknowledge and appreciate the little things – deep down, life shifts – from a series of things to do, to something we’re authentically engaged with. Meaning will start to arise out of the mundane. Joy will emerge from the journey. And a deep purpose will take hold – No Matter What might be happening around you.
I invite all of us to not wait until next year to just celebrate the grand gestures of gratitude, but to find little moments of gratitude in the simple, ordinary and day-to-day. It’s in these little moments that gratitude really blossoms and makes a difference, for ourselves and those around us.
Key Idea
Unseen moments matter most. We might notice the big moments of gratitude, but it’s the small ones that really matter and collectively shape our experience.
Takeaway
Find gratitude in the unnoticed details.
