Don’t Chase Trends—And Why That Matters

MARCH 3, 2025

Truths endure. Growth isn’t about what’s new. It’s about what works. The principles that drive fundamental growth—resilience, adaptability, courage, and accountability—never change. Focus on what endures, equipping yourself and your people with the capacity to thrive no matter what the future holds.

Pay attention to change, but build on what lasts.

We live in a world obsessed with what’s next.

You’ve probably noticed. AI breakthroughs, economic shifts, political movements—every day, there’s a new headline demanding our attention. I regularly work with companies that want to grow, innovate and create breakthrough results– but most of my work has nothing to do with the latest trends…

Why is that you say? I’ll tell you.

Trends are (by definition) always changing. They spark excitement, sometimes even fear. They can leave us always chasing but never quite catching… But the things that truly move people, organizations, and industries forward? They don’t change.

  • AI will constantly be evolving. But to keep up with it isn’t about learning the latest AI trick, it’s about building our capacity to grow.

  • Economic changes are inevitable. But the resilience to move through good times and bad? That’s always important.

  • Business and personal challenges will come and go. But the courage to use them to unlock performance is what’s fundamentally required.

There’s a difference between trends and truths.

Trends come and go. Truths transcend–technology, markets, and news cycles. And it’s what allows individuals and companies to adapt—no matter what the future holds. Trends don’t create impact. People do.

Only focusing on the latest disruptions leaves us chasing a moving target. Instead, it’s the capacity to grow, regardless of the changing landscape, that takes us to greater heights in both our personal lives and in business

People and organizations that achieve breakthrough growth ironically aren’t just reacting to trends. They have a foundation of adaptability that allows them to integrate new technologies, respond to crises, and create their own opportunities.

None of this is to say we should ignore AI, economic shifts, or political changes. AI will continue to transform industries. Political changes will shape economies. And businesses must evolve to stay competitive. But what makes a real difference for all of us is something deeper – the truths that endure. When you have that as your foundation, you don’t have to just follow trends, you can create your own results.

Key Idea
